When bivariate approximations (here: [piecewise] polynomial splines) are used to approximate, for example with the method of wavelets, the stability of the approximations is of the essence. This means, usually, that the norms of the approximants are of the same magnitude as the discrete norms of the coefficients used to generate them. In this paper, this important issue is addressed for the famous Powell-Sabin splines which turned out to be extremely useful in practice. The uniform stability is shown and its dependence on the minimum angle of the triangles defined through the approximants is discussed. Furthermore, other \(L_p\)-norms are discussed as well in the article.
