The integral operators \(K\) involved in the radiosity equation are studied from the view point of their compactness in connection with the shape of the domain \(\Sigma\) of radiative interaction related to the mentioned radiosity equation. The main result of the paper states that if the domain \(\Sigma\) is polyhedral then the integral operator \(K\) acting from the space \(L^p(\Sigma)\) into itself is noncompact for \(1\leq p\leq\infty\). Some other results concerning the operator \(K\) are also included.
