The authors start with the Poisson equation \(\Delta u = f\), for \(f \in C^2\) and strictly positive in a domain of \(\mathbb{R}^n\), for which they seek \(k\)-convex solutions. The \(k\)-convexity of solutions is defined by the fact that the sum of any \(k\) eigenvalues of the Hessian matrix is non-negative. A constant rank theorem for the \(k\)-convex solutions is obtained. The latter leads to an existence theorem for \(k\)-convex star-shaped hypersurfaces in \(\mathbb{R}^{n+1}\) with prescribed mean curvature.
