This paper considers the elementary operators \(\Delta_{AB}\) and \(\phi_{AB}\), where \(\Delta_{AB}(X)=AXB-X\) and \(\phi_{AB}(X)=AXA^*-BXB^*\). It is shown that (i) if either \(A,B\in B(H)\) are contractions such that isolated points \(\lambda\) in \(\sigma(A)\) and \(\sigma(B)\) with \(| \lambda| =1\) are eigenvalues, or (ii) if \(A, B^*\in B(H)\) are hyponormal operators, then \(\Delta_{AB}^{-1}(0)\oplus \Delta_{AB}(B(H))=B(H)\) if and only if \(0\in \text{iso}\{\sigma(A)\sigma(B)-1\}\). A necessary condition for \(\phi_{AB}^{-1}\oplus\phi_{AB}(B(H))=B(H)\) is that \(0\in \text{iso}\sigma(\phi_{AB})\). It is proved that if \(A,B\in B(H)\) are normal commuting operators such that \(A^{-1}(0)\cap B^{-1}(0)=\{0\}\), then a sufficient condition for \(\phi_{AB}^{-1}(0)\oplus\phi_{AB}(B(H))=B(H)\) is that \(0\in \text{iso}\{\alpha\beta-\gamma\delta:\alpha, \overline{\beta}\in\sigma(A), \gamma, \overline{\delta}\in\sigma(B)\}.\)
