Let \(F\) be a singular holomorphic foliation of general type (i.e. the Kodaira dimension of \(F\) is two), on the complex projective plane. The classical Poincaré problem asks for the existence of a bound for the degree of a hypothetical meromorphic first integral of \(F\), depending on the degree of the foliation. It is known that the existence of the bound requires of the full geometry of \(F\). The author provides a new bound for the degree just in function of the degree, the birational invariants of \(F\) and the geometric genus of the generic leaf. Similar bounds for foliations having an invariant algebraic curve are also obtained. Examples are given showing the necessity of the hypothesis, it makes the paper very clear.
