Let \(U_n\) be the affine unitary group and assume that \(L_k\) is the space of complex affine subspaces \(l\) of complex dimension \(n-k\) of \(\mathbb C^n\), endowed with a \(U_n\)-invariant measure \(dl\). Given a compact \(2k-1\)-dimensional oriented manifold \(M\) smoothly immersed in \(\mathbb C^n\), the author is interested in \[ I(M)=\int_{L_k}{\lambda}^2(l, M)dl \] where \(\lambda\) denotes the linking number. The main result is the following inequality: If \(M\) is a closed curve of length \(L\) in \(\mathbb C^n\), then \[ 4\pi^2I(M) \leq L^2 \] with equality if and only if \(M\) is a circle in a complex line, possibly traversed a number of times in the same direction. This result generalizes the well-known Banchoff-Pohl isoperimetric inequality to complex affine space. For general submanifolds, the author proves a reproductive property for \(I(M)\), as well as a representation for it as a double integral.
