The author considers the incompressible generalized magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations in three-dimensional space. Adapting an argument by \textit{Z. Lei} and \textit{F.-H. Lin} [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 64, No. 9, 1297--1304 (2011; Zbl 1225.35165)] for small initial data solutions of the 3D Navier-Stokes equations, the author obtains an equivalent global existence result for the initial value problem of the generalized MHD equations. Long-term decay estimates are given for a restricted parameter interval.
