The paper consists of two parts. The first part gives a survey of discrete time queues with a view towards modelling of communication systems. The emphasis is on burst traffic arrival streams, especially correlation structure of the arrival process, and on non-standard scheduling disciplines for providing service to the customers, i.e., transmission rules for packets. In the second part a single server discrete time priority queue with two priority classes and correlated arrival is investigated. The focus is on packet delay for both classes via probability generating functions.
