The authors consider classes of topological group topologies on groups. They determine those cardinal numbers that arise as the length of a chain of topologies in a class. For example, for G an abelian group with cardinality \({\mathfrak a}\) larger than or equal to the cardinality of the integers, the class of totally bounded group topologies or the class of nontotally bounded group topologies, there is a chain of topologies with cardinality equal to 2(\({\mathfrak a}+)\). A similar result for a free group with the class of totally bounded topologies is also true. This paper uses the properties of cardinal arithmetic, the continuum hypothesis and the generalized continuum hypothesis.
