The authors describe a volume invariant associated to one of Thurston's eight geometries, in much the same way that Gromov volume is associated with hyperbolic geometry. The geometry involved is the geometry applicable to non-trivial Seifert fiber bundles, and is called Seifert space geometry by the authors. This volume invariant is also closely related of the Godbillon-Vey invariant of a foliation. The authors show basic properties of this volume invariant, and that, except for hyperbolic space and Seifert space, no other of the eight geometries has similar volume invariants. They then provide examples for how this volume invariant behaves on manifolds with hyperbolic and Seifert space structure.
