The paper is concerned with the classification of positive radial solutions of the system \[ \begin{cases} \Delta u =v ^p & \text{in }\, \Omega \\ \Delta v = f(|\nabla u|) & \text{in }\, \Omega \end{cases} \] with \(p > 0\) and \(f:[0,+\infty)\to \mathbb R\) continuously differentiable and nondecreasing such that \(f(t) > 0\) for \(t > 0\). For \(\Omega=\mathbb R ^N\), it is shown that solutions exist if and only if \(F(t):=\int_0^t f(s)\, ds\) satisfies \[ \int_1^{+\infty} \left(\int_0^s F(t)\, dt\right) ^{-p/(2p+1)}\, ds =\infty. \] This result can be regarded as the counterpart of the Keller-Osserman condition for the case of single semilinear equation. Analogous optimal conditions are derived when \(\Omega\) is a ball. By means of dynamical system techniques, the behaviour of solutions at infinity or around the boundary (according to the cases in which \(\Omega\) is the whole space or a ball) is described for the particular case \(f(t) = t^q\) with \(q > 1\).
