The author discusses properties of the Hopf algebra \(U_ h({\mathfrak g})\) a quantized analogue of the enveloping algebra of the symmetrizable Kac- Moody Lie algebra \({\mathfrak g}\). If \({\mathfrak g}\) is finite-dimensional and semisimple, then the author defines an analogue of the Harish-Chandra homomorphism \(\delta\). Let \({\mathfrak t}_ 0\) denote the Cartan algebra of \({\mathfrak g}\), and \({\mathfrak t}\) its tensor product with the ring of formal power series in h. Then T denotes the subalgebra of \(U_ h({\mathfrak g})\) generated by \({\mathfrak t}\), and \(\bar T\) is its h-adic completion. The author proves, that the homomorphism \(\delta\) of \(U_ h({\mathfrak g})\) into \(\bar T\) is injective on the center of \(U_ h({\mathfrak g})\). The image of the center consists of those elements of \(\bar T,\) which are invariant under the action of the Weyl group.
