The author proves for the nonlinear diffusion equation of the form \[ \beta '(u)u_ t-\Delta u=0,\quad u|_{\partial \Omega}=0,\quad u(0)=0 \] results analogous to that of \textit{J. G. Berryman} and \textit{C. J. Holland} [ibid. 74, 379-388 (1980; Zbl 0458.35046)].
