The authors evaluate \(\int^{b}_{a}\log \Gamma (t)\,dt\) for \(a,b>0\) in terms of the Hurwitz zeta function. If in particular \(a\) is a natural number and \(b\) a half-integer then \(\zeta'(-1)\) appears as a crucial constant for the calculation of these integrals. The authors' formula yields a method for the numerical calculation of \(\zeta'(-1)\). - The number \(\zeta'(-1)\) is an important constant which comes up in the formula for the determinant of the Laplacian on a compact Riemann surface. The reviewer would like to add the following references which are missing: \textit{P. Sarnak} [Determinants of Laplacians, Commun. Math. Phys. 110, 113--120 (1987; Zbl 0618.10023)]; \textit{A. Voros} [Spectral functions, special functions and the Selberg zeta function, Commun. Math. Phys. 110, 439--465 (1987; Zbl 0631.10025)].
