Let \(p\) be a prime, \(\mathbb F_{p^m}\) the field of \(p^m\) elements, \(\text{Tr}\) the trace from \(\mathbb F_{p^m}\) to \(\mathbb F_p\) and \(\omega\) a complex primitive \(p\)th root of unity. For \(a,b\in\mathbb F_{p^m}\), the Kloosterman sum is: \[ K(a,b)=\sum_{x\in\mathbb F_{p^m}^*} \omega^{\text{Tr}(ax+b/x)}. \] The authors establish an identity between Kloosterman sums in arbitrary characteristic. They deduce a non-trivial identity in characteristic 3: \[ K(b^3,b-b^3)=K(b^3+1,b-b^3)=K(b^3-1,b-b^3), \] for any \(b\in\mathbb F_{3^m}\setminus \mathbb F_3\). All previous non-trivial identities were over finite fields of characteristic 2, see \textit{T. Helleseth} and \textit{V. Zinoviev} [Finite Fields Appl. 9, No. 2, 187--193 (2003; Zbl 1081.11077)].
