In [\textit{V. Chari} and \textit{A. Pressley}, Represent. Theory 5, 191--223 (2001; Zbl 0989.17019)], the notion of Weyl module for untwisted affine Lie algebras was introduced in order to analyze finite dimensional representations of the corresponding quantum object. This work focuses on the twisted case, where some of the previously known techniques turn out to be not effective. First, the notion of Weyl module is defined for this class of algebras, and, taking into account the absence of fusion products for the twisted case, the ansatz to obtain dimension formulae and decompositions for these modules is based on an identification with specifically chosen Weyl modules of the untwisted algebras.
