The authors consider chemical species penetrating an unsaturated porous material through the air-filled parts of the pores and dissolving in water along the interfaces between water and air. The authors employ a Galerkin approach for multi-scale reaction-diffusion systems with nonlinear coupling between microscopic and macroscopic variables. The authors also derive some estimates which guarantee the compactness of finite-dimensional approximations. Several theorems are stated and proved. The reviewer feels that the presence of a sink/source term in the diffusion equation (2) is unnecessary as it is introduced as a boundary condition in Eq. (8). Further, the paper is poorly presented, e.g. Theorem 1 and Theorem 3 are missing, and instead the paper starts with Theorem 2 and is followed by Theorem 4.
