This book consists of 13 papers, each a chapter, discussing the main theme, detection of abrupt changes, in varying depth. The first three papers, forming Part I of the book, are devoted to the somewhat easier problem where the changes take place additively such as a change of the mean of a signal. In the next six papers of Part II more general changes are considered and more advanced techniques are needed. There is a fair amount of discussion of detecting changes in the parameters of dynamic systems. Some of the papers in this part are quite deep including hard analysis, while others are still relatively easy emphasizing engineering solutions. The remaining three papers in Part III discuss three applications, the first of rhythm analysis in electrocardiographs, the second of on-line segmentation of speech signals, and the third of seismic signal processing.
