    In computer tomography (CT) the Radon transform has to be inversed. With the aid of the Fourier transform one gets an inversion formula. A straightforward discretization of this formula leads to the standard Fourier reconstruction algorithm (FR), which is much more efficient than the filtered back projection algorithm, e.g. But the accuracy of FR can not compete with other reconstruction techniques. The trouble in accuracy is caused by the interpolatory part of the algorithm, especially by the radial interpolation, while the angular interpolation is allright. This observation leads to an improved version of FR, for which a rigorous error analysis is given. Numerical experiments with a computer generated chest phantom demonstrate the accuracy of the modified FR.
