This paper is a study of some basic properties of dissipative chaotic systems. In particular, Kolmogorov entropy, fractal dimension and sensitive dependence on initial data are studied from the point of view of probability theory. Some relationships are obtained between generalized entropies and the Lyapunov exponents. Also the divergence of nearby trajectories is related to Gaussian noise distributions. The numerical experiments carried out for several examples including the Hénon map and the Zaslavskij map indicate that the information dimension \(\neq\) Hausdorff dimension and metric entropy \(\neq\) topological entropy. Also, some bounds are obtained for the generalized dimensions and the entropies.
