Solutions of the nonlinear equation \[ y^{(n)}+a_ 1(t)y^{(n- 1)}+...+a_ n(t)y+f(t,y,...,y^{(n-1)}) \] are shown to behave asymptotically like the solutions of the linear equation \(z^{(n)}+a_ 1(t)z^{(n-1)}+...+a_ n(t)z=0\) provided there is a suitable bound on the nonlinear term. The result differs from most results of this type in that it gives solutions of the nonlinear equation for all t, not merely for sufficiently large t, and requires no assumptions about oscillation or non-oscillation of solutions of the linear equation.
