The authors consider the following predator-prey model with Holling's type III functional response: \[ (1)\quad \dot x=ax-bx^ 2-\alpha x^ 2y/(x^ 2+\beta^ 2),\quad \dot y=-cy+k\alpha x^ 2y/(x^ 2+\beta^ 2), \] where x is the biomass of prey and y the biomass of predator. It is noted that the results of \textit{A. Hastings}, J. Math. Biology 5, 399- 403 (1978; Zbl 0382.92008), cannot be applied to (1). Sufficient conditions are obtained for the global stability of the nontrivial equilibria as well as the existence and uniqueness of limit cycles of (1). The results generalize those of \textit{N. D. Kazarinoff} and \textit{P. Van den Driessche}, Math. Biosciences 39, 125-134 (1978; Zbl 0382.92007).
