The limiting norm as a new characteristic of the input-output relations of a linear operator is introduced by the paper. It is shown that in nonlinear problems the limiting norm plays a similar role as the spectral radius in linear problems. It is well-known that many important elements of control systems like gaps, rests, and relays cannot be treated as operators in Hilbert spaces of type \(L_ 2\). The paper gives an example for the way in which the limiting norm may be applied in the analysis of a special class of nonlinear systems. Another example considers the set of square matrices as operators to clarify further the concept of the limiting norm. This norm of such matrices does not depend on the selection of a specific norm in \({\mathbb{R}}^ n\).
