This is the record of a course. It gives an example of a short and rather narrow access to the homology theory of groups. All the important algebraic concepts are introduced. A basic understanding is prepared and a minimal set of examples is given. Within the limitations set by the author, motivation, history and the relationship between the subject and algebraic topology remained virtually untouched. This skillfully composed introduction might serve as a first contact with the subject before proceeding to the more elaborate standard texts.
