Let R be a commutative ring and A an Azumaya algebra over R. For any \(\sigma\in Aut[R]\) denote by \(_{\sigma}A\) the ring A with the algebra structure \(r\cdot a=\sigma^{-1}(r)a\). The uniform distribution subgroup U(R) of the Brauer group of R consists of all classes [A] for which: \((i)\quad If\exp [A]=n\), R contains a primitive n-th root of unit \(e_ n\); \((ii)\quad If\sigma\in Aut[R]\) and \(\sigma (e_ n)=e^ m_ n\), then \([_{\sigma}A]=[A]^ m\). - If R is a field U(R) contains the Schur subgroup of the Brauer group. The authors show that if R is the ring of integers in a number field with r real embeddings, U(R) is trivial if r is odd and of order 2 if r is even. They further show that for any finite cyclic p-group P there is a local field R such that the p-primary part of U(R) is isomorphic to P.
