The tangent bundle of \(p^ 1\)-velocities \(T^ 1_ pM\) of an arbitrary manifold M possesses a canonical p-almost tangent structure in the sense considered in this paper; therefore, \(T^ 1_ pM\) will play for the p- almost tangent structures a role similar to that of the tangent bundle TM for the almost tangent structures introduced by \textit{R. S. Clark} and \textit{M. R. Bruckheimer} [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris 251, 627-629 (1960; Zbl 0094.350)]; in fact, for \(p=1\) both notions coincide. The interpretation of p-almost tangent structures as G-structures on the manifold, their integrability conditions expressed in terms of some (Nijenhuis) tensors associated with it, and the existence of an adapted symmetric connection are the topics considered in the paper. Some well chosen examples are considered to illustrate and to motivate the definitions and main results.
