The authors prove the remarkable result stated in the title. More precisely, they show the following theorem: If \({\mathfrak D}\) is a t- (v,k,\(\lambda)\)-design with \(v>(\left( \begin{matrix} k\\ 2\end{matrix} \right)- 1)^ 2,\) then any block-transitive automorphism group of \({\mathfrak D}\) is necessarily point-primitive. Note that this result would not be true without some parametric restriction; e.g., the Singer groups of the classical designs \(PG_{d-1}(d,q)\) provide counterexamples.
