The Ext-quiver of a \(p\)-block of a finite group is a directed graph with the simple modules in the block as vertices and a number of arrows between them, given by the dimension of the \(\text{Ext}^1\) of the modules. The authors determine here the Ext-quiver of the principal \(p\)-block of the symmetric groups \(S_{3p}\) for \(p\) at least 5, which then is the unique block of this group of defect 3. The authors first use work of J. Scopes and of the first author to describe the Ext-quivers of the \(p\)-blocks of defect 2 in \(S_n\) for \(n\) between \(2p\) and \(3p-1\). Then the remaining major part of the paper is concerned with restriction and induction of irreducibles between \(S_{3p-1}\) and \(S_{3p}\).
