The author investigates the existence of spiral-like self-similar solutions for the evolution of planar curves by curvature. He concludes that there are no shrinking spiral-like homothetic solutions, but there exists a family of expanding such solutions characterized by a finite rotation number. Thus they are different from the infinite spiral, invariant under rotation, which was known to be a self-similar solution of the curve shortening equation.
