A vertex operator algebra \(V\) is called \(C_2\)-finite in this paper if the subspace \(\text{Span} \{u_{-2} V\mid u\in V\}\) has finite codimension in \(V\), where the vertex operator \(Y(u,z)= \sum_{n\in \mathbb{Z}}u_nz^{-n-1}\). The \(C_2\)-finiteness condition has been used by \textit{Y. Zhu} in proving a modular property of vertex operator algebras [J. Am. Math. Soc. 9, 237-302 (1996; Zbl 0854.17034)]. The author proves that a regular vertex operator algebra is \(C_2\)-finite, and a finite fusion rule and has a finite number of generators.
