A random cubic structure is determined in the following way. The space \(\mathbb{R}^ 3\) is partitioned into unit cubes colored independently in black with probability \(p\) and white with probability \(1-p\), \(0 \leq p \leq 1\). Suppose that the white cubes are filled with a conductor with unit conductivity tensor and the black cubes with an ideal dielectric, i.e., material with zero conductivity. The concept of effective conductivity may be defined for such a ``colored'' space. The effective conductivity depends in a natural way on the initial parameter \(p\); for example, for \(p=0\), it is equal to one, and for \(p=1\) it is equal to zero. The basic result of the present article is that the effective conductivity is positive if and only if the conducting part of \(\mathbb{R}^ 3\) (i.e., the set of all white cubes) contains an infinite connected component, called an infinite cluster.
