    We give an affirmative answer to the following question raised by C. M. Ringel more than 14 years ago [in \textit{M. Auslander} and \textit{S. O. Smalø}, Lect. Notes Math. 832, 48-73 (1980; Zbl 0446.16026)]. If \(\Lambda\) is an Artin algebra of infinite representation type, do there exist indecomposable modules which are neither preprojective nor preinjective?
