The author considers a metric space with a \(\sigma\)-finite measure \(m\) and a strongly continuous sub-Markovian semigroup of contractions on \(L^p (m)\) for \(p>1\). Following \textit{M. Fukushima} and \textit{K. Kaneko} [Res. Notes Math. 124, 41-47 (1985; Zbl 0573.60069)] the author develops quasi-sure analysis related to this group, in particular a criterion for quasi-sure convergence. This criterion is applied to obtain a generalization of Birkhoff's theorem in ergodic theory, convergence of martingales and quadratic variation of the Brownian motion.
