We cite from the text and the introduction: ``Let \((V,F)\) be a compact foliated manifold and \(G\) its holonomy groupoid. The purpose of the present paper is to develop a Lefschetz formula which computes the action of a leaf-preserving diffeomorphism \(f\) on the cohomology of an elliptic \(G\)-complex over \(V\). If \(f\) is associated with a geometric endomorphism of the elliptic complex \((E,d)\), we define a Lefschetz class \(L(f;E,d)\) which lives in the localized equivariant \(K\)-theory of the foliation \((V,F)\). We prove that \(L(f;E,d)\) is given in terms of local data over the fixed point set of \(f\). When the foliation admits a holonomy invariant transverse measure, we deduce a Lefschetz formula which, when holonomy is negligible, gives the Heitsch-Lazarov formula and extends it to arbitrary \(G\)-complexes with an explicit formula for the integrand. However, our theorem does not require the existence of such a measure and is a tool to define differential invariants using cyclic cohomology and to express them in terms of the fixed point set of \(f\). The method is a generalization of the one adopted by M. F. Atiyah and G. Segal in the nonfoliated case. The main tool is the equivariant version of the Connes-Skandalis longitudinal index theorem for foliations''.
