It is well-known that the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation \(u_t +u_{xxx}- 6uu_x =0\) has the \(n\)-soliton (multi-soliton) solution. This paper is concerned with analyzing the linearized KdV equation at the \(n\)-soliton solution. Let \(\mathcal W\) be the space of functions of the form \[ u= \sum^n_{j=1} f_j (x-4 \omega_j^2 t) + R(x,t) , \] where the \(f_j\) are solitary-like wave forms decaying exponentially as \(x \to \pm \infty\), \(R\) is a function that decays exponentially as \(t \to \infty\), and \(f_j\) and \(R(x,t)\) are analytic in a strip in the complex \(x\) plane. Then the space \(\mathcal W\) is closed under differentiation and multiplication, and the \(n\)-soliton solution of the KdV equation belongs to \(\mathcal W\). In this paper the authors investigate the inversion of the linearized KdV equation in the space \(\mathcal W\) with suitable linear solvability constraints.
