The authors investigate the convergence rate of the Fourier spectral projection methods and the accuracy of numerical solution through the pressure correction for the \(n\)-dimensional periodic Navier-Stokes equations. From the above mentioned methods they derive some alternative formulations of the Navier-Stokes equations and the related projection schemes. This gives the possibility to derive the estimated error of the numerical velocity and of the numerical pressure separately. A global nonlinear analysis is utilized to estimate the convergence rates and to relax the restriction on \(\tau\), the step in time, and the requirement on the regularity of the genuine solution. Furthermore, the authors prove that the numerical pressure of the second order projection method can be corrected so that it achieves the same convergence rate as numerical velocity. Related results can be found in [\textit{J. Van Kan}, SIAM J. Sci. Stat. Comput. 7, 870--891 (1986; Zbl 0954.76023)].
