Let \(H\) and \(K\) be complex Hilbert spaces, and \({\mathcal B}(H, K)\) (\({\mathcal B}(H)\) if \(H=K\)) be the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators from \(H\) into \(K\). Let \({\mathcal A}\) and \({\mathcal B}\) are subalgebras in \({\mathcal B}(H)\) and \({\mathcal B}(K)\), respectively, and \(\Phi: {\mathcal A}\to{\mathcal B}\) be a map. \(\Phi\) is said to be a numerical radius isometry if \(w(\Phi(T-S))=w(T-S)\) for all \(T,S\in{\mathcal A}\), where \(w(T)\) denotes the usual numerical radius of \(T\). Let \({\mathcal N}\) and \({\mathcal M}\) be two atomic nests on complex Hilbert spaces \(H\) and \(K\), respectively. Denote by Alg\({\mathcal N}\) the nest algebra associated with \({\mathcal N}\) and by \({\mathcal D}_{{\mathcal N}}\)= Alg\({\mathcal N}\cap(\)Alg\({\mathcal N})^{\ast}\) the diagonal algebra. \textit{Z.-F. Bai} and \textit{J.-C. Hou} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 132, 1453--1461 (2004; Zbl 1061.47034)] characterized the surjective numerical radius isometry \(\Phi\) in the case where \({\mathcal A}={\mathcal B}(H)\) and \({\mathcal B}={\mathcal B}(K)\). In this paper, the authors consider the same question for more general cases and give a thorough classification of weakly continuous numerical radius isometries from Alg\({\mathcal N}\) onto Alg\({\mathcal M}\) and a thorough classification of numerical radius isometries from \({\mathcal D}_{{\mathcal N}}\) onto \({\mathcal D}_{{\mathcal M}}\).
