Der Aufsatz legt dar, dass der Versuch von Michelson und Morley (vergl. F. d. M. 19, 1084, 1887, JFM 19.1084.01; JFM 19.1084.02) für die Frage, ob die Erde bei ihrer Bewegung den Lichtäther mit sich reisst oder ihn durchdringt, nicht entscheidend sein könne, da die Methode der optischen Justirung des Apparates nicht einwandfrei sei. In wiefern dies der Fall sein soll, wird durch Formeln und mathematische Entwickelungen näher präcisirt.
