The author investigates unsteady plane motion of a circular cylinder in a fluid consisting of three layers. In each layer, the fluids are perfect, incompressible, heavy and homogeneous with constant densities. The author employs piecewise analytic functions of complex variable using the fact that the velocity potential is a harmonic function. For the complex velocity, the general initial and boundary conditions can be written by using Cauchy type integrals with unknown densities on separation surfaces. This leads to a system of three nonlinear integro-differential equations for the time-depending densities. The solution is obtained numerically by Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg method.
