The authors develop a computational procedure for the calculation of the contribution of irregularly shaped defects to the effective moduli in linear plane elasticity. After constructing the hole compliance tensor via finite element analysis and numerical conformal mapping, they calculate the effective moduli for various kinds of plane porous solids, assuming non-interacting, irregularly shaped defects. A number of examples with various combinations of defects is presented. Some results for compressibility of holes are compared with known solutions.
