The authors provide a simple example of a derivative \(f\), mapping \([0,1]\) into itself, such that \(f\circ f\) is nowhere continuous, and hence not Baire one. The example should be seen in connection with a renowned result by \textit{P. Szuca} [Real Anal. Exch. 29, No. 1, 205--209 (2004; Zbl 1065.26004)] saying that whenever \(f_1,\dots,f_n\) are functions mapping \([0,1]\) into itself and having connected \(G_\delta\) graphs (that is, e.g., Darboux Baire one functions), then the composition \(f_1\circ\dots\circ f_n\) has a fixed point.
