The authors extend result on the convergence of solutions of damped compressible Euler system to Barenblatt solutions of the porous medium equation in [\textit{F. Huang} et al., Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 200, No. 2, 665--689 (2011; Zbl 1229.35196)] to the case of general polytropic gas, and improve the convergence rates in $L^1$ norm. The argument is based on entropy estimates for bounded weak solutions of the Euler system and an iterative scheme.
