Examples of hereditary categories having a tilting object include the module categories of finite-dimensional hereditary algebras and the coherent sheaves on weighted projective lines. It is expected that, up to derived equivalence, there are no other examples. The paper under review proves such a statement under the additional assumption that there exists a non-zero object of finite length. This generalizes an earlier result of \textit{H. Lenzing} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 125, No. 7, 1893-1901 (1997; Zbl 0869.18006)].
