Bicubic patches are typically used to define surfaces with a rectangular topology and at each vertex, exactly four patches meet. This paper generalizes this topological constraint, which was first discussed by Bézier. Conditions for smooth piecewise bicubic surfaces are discussed when patches meet in a less restricted way. However, for some cases they result in global conditions.
