In an earlier paper [Math. Ann. 276, 675-686 (1987; Zbl 0613.10027)] the author introduced the Maaß space as the analogue of the Maaß Spezialschar on the half-space of quaternions of degree 2. Now it is shown that the Maaß space is invariant under all Hecke operators. As an application it follows that the (quaternionic) Siegel-Eisenstein series of degree 2 belongs to the Maaß space. The Fourier coefficients of the Siegel-Eisenstein series are calculated explicitly. Surprisingly they have a simpler structure than the Fourier coefficients of the classical Siegel-Eisenstein series. Then the attached Andrianov zeta-function and a Dirichlet series arising from the first Jacobi form are investigated. Analytic continuation and functional equations are derived and the existence of an Euler product expansion is demonstrated for simultaneous eigenforms under all Hecke operators. Moreover one can characterize those simultaneous eigenforms in the Maaß space, which arise from new forms for \(\Gamma_ 0(2)\) via Fourier-Jacobi expansion, by the property that the attached Andrianov zeta-function does not vanish at \(s=k-2\), where k is the weight.
