    Generalizing an identity due to the reviewer, \textit{J. W. Sander} [Monatsh. Math. 104, 125-132 (1987; Zbl 0627.10012)] proved that \[ \sum_{x\in {\mathbb{Z}}^ 4}f(b^{-1/2}x)\sum_{u}e_ b(uQ(x))=(\det Q/b)\sum_{x\in {\mathbb{Z}}^ 4}\hat f(b^{-1/2}x)\sum_{u}e_ b(uQ^{- 1}(x)), \] for a quadratic form Q in 4 variables and a square-free odd modulus b. Here the sums over u are for \(1\leq u\leq b\), \((u,b)=1\). This result is now generalized to ``quadratic groups''. Unfortunately too much notation would be required to give the result here. As a special case it is shown that, for \((a,b)=1\) and b odd, one has \[ \sum_{x\in {\mathbb{Z}}}e(ax^ 2/b)f(b^{-1/2}x)=b^{-1/2}g\sum_{x\in {\mathbb{Z}}}e(- a'x^ 2/b)\hat f(b^{-1/2}x), \] where \(g=\sum_{k mod b}e_ b(ak^ 2)\) and \(aa'\equiv 1 (mod b)\).
