The authors are looking for uniqueness criteria for first-order differential equations which are implicit in the sense that they are not solved with respect to the derivatives of unknown functions. A major part of the paper contains results concerning implicit differential equations with discontinuous nonlinearities. In section 2, a comparison principle is discussed, which is then applied to prove uniqueness results for the differential equation \[ \frac d{dt} \varphi (t,u(t))=g(t,u(t))\;\text{almost everywhere in an interval} [t_0,t_1] \] with the boundary condition \(au(t_0)-bu(t_1)=c\). In section 3 more general equations (with the right-hand side depending on \(\frac d{dt}\varphi (t,u(t))\)) are considered. In section 4 a special case is considered and the well-posedness of initial value problems is discussed.
