Let \(R\) be a semilocal Noetherian ring with no simple left ideals. By an \(R\)-lattice is meant a finitely generated left \(R\)-module with zero socle. \(R\) is of finite lattice type if there are only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable \(R\)-lattices. The author shows that if \(R\) is of finite lattice type, then \(R\) is contained in a semiperfect regular ring \(R'\) that is itself an \(R\)-lattice, such that the right conductor of \(R\) in \(R'\) is of finite index in \(R\). This ultimately implies that both the Krull-Schmidt property and the existence of such an \(R'\) are equivalent to the existence of almost split sequences in the category of \(R\)-lattices.
