    Let \(f\) be a holomorphic self-mapping of the complex projective space \(\mathbf{P}_k(\mathbb{C})\), of degree \(d\geq 2\). According to \textit{J.-Y Briend} and \textit{J. Duval} [Publ. Math., Inst. Hautes Étud. Sci. 93, 145--159 (2001; Zbl 1010.37004)], the exceptional set \(E\) of \(f\) is the largest completely invariant proper algebraic subset of \(\mathbf{P}_k(\mathbb{C})\). The authors prove that any totally invariant irreducible algebraic subvariety of \(\mathbf{P}_k(\mathbb{C})\) is a linear space. In particular, the exceptional set of \(f\) is a finite union of linear subspaces.
