The Born-Infeld (BI) system is a nonlinear version of Maxwell's equations. The author augments the original 6-by-6 BI system to a 10-by-10 system of conservation laws. The resulting augmented BI (ABI) system keeps the linear degeneracy of the BI system, but has the Galilean invariance of fluid mechanics and, in addition, has a lot of similarities with magnetohydro\-dynamics (MHD). The high-field limit of the ABI system yields pressureless MHD equations, its very-high-field limit yields equations of pressureless gas dynamics, and its low-field limit yields Maxwell's equations.
